What does PR stand for in AMD etc. chip
speed ratings ?
The P-Rating helps PC manufacturers rate processors by
delivered performance, and it helps end users understand true processor performance
equivalencies while making their PC buying decisions. The P-Rating employs the
industry-standard Ziff-Davis Winstone 96 benchmark, which uses best-selling
Windows-compatible applications in a typical system environment. The rating methodology
tests processors with multiple architectures from multiple suppliers in identical PC
configurations, resulting in a fair and accurate picture of delivered performance.
Who's chip is faster ?
In back to back tests the AMD K7 is approximately
5% faster than an Intel Coppermine of the same speed. The new Cyrix MIII is
equivalent in performance to a K6/3 or Celeron of the same speed. The IDT WinChip is generally
slightly slower than the equivalent speed K6/3 or Celeron.
